Workshop description
Standardized patients are widely used to assess communication and other clinical skills.
This workshop will provide an overview of the use of standardized patients for assessment of clinical skills. Practical examples and case studies will be used to illustrate the practical aspects.
Topics to be covered include:
- how to recruit and select SPs
- writing SPs scenarios: do’s and don’ts
- SP training: practical tips
- assessment checklists: writing and validation
- designing and evaluating your assessment with SPs
Objectives
After the WS participants will be able to:
- Acknowledge the roles of SPs in assessment and as feedback providers
- Understand the principles of SP program management, SP training, uses of SPs for assessment and feedback, scenario and checklist building and assessment design.
- Distinguish good and bad practices regarding SP training, scenario and checklist building and assessment design.
- Write adequate and complete SP scenarios
- Design and evaluate assessments using SPs.
